The new year is fast approaching, which means its time to set your resolutions for 2018. Whether you’re looking to hit the gym every day or find your dream job, there are a number of different goals you can set for yourself. Many homeowners use the new year as a time to fix up their home, even getting it ready to sell.
Even if you’re not actively trying to sell your home, you might be thinking of it as a future goal. As such, we’ve come up with 5 resolutions to get your home seller-ready. Think of yourself as the potential buyer you’re trying to woo. Plus, even if you don’t end up selling your home, you can sit back and relax among a home perfectly suited for selling.
Fix up your home step by step with these 5 home improvement resolutions.
Get Rid of Any Junk
Whether you’re selling it or not, we can all agree that excess clutter in a home is a major turn off. Take a few days or even a week to go through every room in your house and get rid of unused or excess items.
Old clothes that no longer fit, that fancy spiralizer you’ve never used, or the fancy collection of porcelain clown dolls your aunt gifted you are all prime for the thrift store, yard sale, or eBay.
Add Curb Appeal
This resolution can wait until the warmer months, which means planting flowers or new shrubbery to liven up your yard.
Touch Up Your Exterior
Nothing says “welcome home” like a fresh coat of paint on your front door. Try a new color like stately red, indigo, powder blue, or turquoise. These colors are inviting and fresh.
Update at Least One Outdated Feature
You don’t have to overhaul your entire kitchen, but maybe set a budget for updating one feature in your home. Maybe it’s switching out the traditional on/off light switches to dimmers, or replacing the faucets in your kitchen and bathroom.
Updating the interior of your home adds value to it for the long haul, while you get to take advantage of the added comfort it provides.
Switch Out Your Lights
LED light bulbs are the way of the future. In fact, incandescent bulbs are being phased out as we speak and won’t be for sale past 2020.
LED light bulbs last longer and provide a more brilliant light. If you’re tired of dim rooms and higher energy bills, start looking into replacing all your bulbs with LEDs.
