Explore Natural Beauty

Arizona is known for its stark natural beauty. If you’re looking for the endless blue of desert skies and breathtaking views, you’ve come to the right state. Tempe has many parks to explore, and if you’re looking to unwind, we have some suggestions.

Papago Park

Desert beauty

Papago Park is a municipal park shared by Tempe and Phoenix. With almost 1,500 acres to explore, you’ll always discover new spots. If you’re new to Arizona and want to learn more about our local flora and fauna, this park has plenty to see. Explore desert plants and unique geological marvels that you can only find here.

In addition, don’t miss the Desert Botanical Garden, Hunt’s Tomb, and the park’s own Gold Course!

Tempe Beach Park

Shore by the lake

Did you know that Tempe has its own man-made lake? Built in 1999, this master planned park has features for people of all ages. One of the most interesting aspects of the park is the historic baseball diamond, which is from the original park that was built many years before the lake!

In addition, you can check out a concert at the amphitheater, go fishing in the lake, or visit the recently built splash pad!

Experience Delicious Cuisine

Tempe is home to its own unique blend of fine dining and no-frills grub. You’ll find restaurants offering a little bit of everything, so here are some of our favorites.

House of Tricks

Yummy spices.

House of Tricks is a local restaurant that emphasizes sustainability and Arizonan flair. Housed in a 1920’s cottage, this restaurant has been open for over 30 years and offers a variety of great dishes.

Some of the best options include the Guajillo spiced game hen and the Ancho spiced beef tenderloin.

Snooze: An AM Eatery

A full breakfast.

A bustling breakfast spot in the heart of Tempe, Snooze offers delectable breakfast for those looking for a quick bite. They offer some traditional favorites, including French toast and omelettes, but aren’t afraid to offer some meals with a twist.

Feeling adventurous? Give the huevos rancheros or morning shakshuka a try!

Shop Tempe Marketplace

Friends shopping

For an engaging, open-air shopping experience, look no further than Tempe Marketplace. This mall, located near Mesa, features both entertainment options and stores that you know and love. If you’re looking for larger retailers, the outer ring of the market is for you. For more local shops, explore the inner area, called “The District.”

One of the coolest things about Tempe Marketplace is the outdoor concert venue. Be on the lookout for events—you can always find a free concert at the Marketplace!

Explore History at Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park

Natural desert landscape

The Tempe area is home to a great deal of natural history. Declared a national landmark in the 1960s, the Pueblo Grande Museum highlights ancient artifacts from Native Americans. Take some time to check out the old platform mound and canal system in addition to an indoor museum.

You’ll learn a great deal from this spot, which features ruins from past civilizations and displays artifacts donated by the city of Phoenix.
